I am already messing up my New Year’s Resolutions. A big part of my anxiety from the latter half of 2018 was from the amount of things I crammed into my schedule, and I vowed that I would make this one of those ‘breaaathe‘ years. Gross. But anyway, I needed it.
Haha, well, no…at the time of me writing this, I’ve done nothing but run around insane-like, doing a LOT of things, with zero downtime. I’ve gone to California and back, gotten a tattoo, helped host two events, last-minute-help-setup another event, and somehow found myself in the middle of four different photoshoots.
I felt like brief update/review was the best way to condense all of the action.
Wasteland: So, things were pretty quiet on the Wasteland front because of the holidays, but we’ve had a build night scheduled since before Christmas. We held it on Allyn’s birthday and it was a BLAST. A local, ball-type event planned for the very next weekend was abruptly moved to another date. I mean abruptly, day before abruptly. I scrambled around trying to find something to do for the many who still wanted to party. We had some amazing friends volunteer to host. It was a great party, but made me really long for summer or even spring. It’s pretty hard to enjoy the apocalypse when it’s cold outside. No wonder the Azgeda warriors are so hardcore.
There’s all sorts of info out there about how people feel the most “in love” with their partner when watching said partner do something alone, something they enjoy, essentially just in their own element. I unfortunately don’t get to see Allyn often enough to have a lot of those moments. This was one, taken on his birthday. I had to take a photo even though I usually don’t; I prefer to enjoy those moments technology-free. His sparkly birthday crotch was too amazing to keep to myself or keep in the moment. I had to preserve it. TA DA!
California: My old, wonderful, dear friends and I decided on a friend reunion. One of us had a birthday the first weekend of February, so we made a plan to meet up in California. I honestly had no expectations and just wanted to enjoy our time together, but even I was amazed at the fantastic time we had. This is mostly because I’m a whiny ass when I’m not at home doing nothing.
We just have that Ron/Harry/Hermione chemistry and it’s kept us friends through years apart and major life changes. I felt like we were in our early twenties just a month or so ago. Now we can hang out without the angst and agony of being in our twenties, which is a plus. Totally great way to spend a weekend, and ended with us all getting a friendship tattoo! Another bonus was that I hitched a ride home with another great friend; we got stuck in the winter storm which wasn’t so great, but I do love that ‘road trip chemistry’ that we had and put to good use with a lot of philosophy talk. I definitely have quality people in my life.
Photoshoots: These weren’t all supposed to happen so close together, lol. The Norse photoshoot was actually mine and Allyn’s anticipated Halloween costumes, but life just got so crazy we never finished what we set out to do. I was so impressed with his eye prosthetic. My vision was an Odin similar to the one in the Vikings TV show, but I wanted him even younger and more handsome! (My outfit is still not finished, and I feel like I say that about every costume I own, but the photos look amazing anyway.)
I love the versatility of our looks in these photoshoots. The one we did in Cali I don’t have photos of yet, but I’ll post those in another update. Do check out each of these photographers, they are fantastic and I can personally recommend all of them!
